Before installing any connector it is recommended that you read the Connectors Overview page. All connectors follow common instructions for installation and require prerequisites be installed. The following information is specific to this connector.

The Connectors Overview includes a section on features for Aveva (OSIsoft) system support.

The following are specifics for installing an Aveva (OSISoft) Historian connector.

The Aveva (OSIsoft) PI connector communicates locally to the PI server over OPC HDA. As such, it requires that the OPC Classic .NET Redistributables are installed. Download and extract the zip file on the computer hosting the ThinkIQ Connector. These files can be extracted into the Documents folder for convenience

There are two options when installing the connector: it can be installed  locally, on the machine where the OSI PI sever is located, or remotely, on a different machine. In either case, the machine must be running Windows - this is an Aveva (OSIsoft) restriction.

Local Installation

Local Installation: PI server and ThinkIQ gateway/connector on same machine

  • The machine must have outbound connectivity as described here
  • This is the simplest installation

Remote Installation

Remote Installation: separate machine for ThinkIQ gateway and connector

  • The Pi SDK must be installed on this machine
    • During the SDK installation, you must elect the OPC HDA option: this is not installed by default
  • The machine must have outbound connectivity as described here
  • The machine must have internal access to the Pi Server
    • You will need to know the PI Server machine IP or Name

Mapping Tags

To receive time series data from a new connector, its tags must be properly linked to attributes in ThinkIQ system. Learn how to Map Tags to Data Sources.
