There are a few ways to edit instance content from Model Explorer:
- Edit the Instance Description
- Edit the Details Page
- Edit the Display Article
All of them provide a Content Editor with a toolbar with tooltips.
Editing Instance Descriptions
On the Overview tab of every instance is a description of the instance. If no description exists, you will see 'No description provided' in the field. You can either double click on the instance in the instance tree of the Model Browser, or click the 'Edit instancename' link in the Links list to the right of the container. Both will open the Edit instance dialog. In the Edit instance dialog box, use the 'Hint: To edit description click here' to open the editor.
Instance descriptions are meant to provide quick insight into the nature of the instance. These descriptions are not meant to be lengthy or particularly rich in content. For that, you should use a Display Script Article. The instance description is stored differently and therefore will not allow full use of the tools in the editor toolbar. Still, you can add headings, use color, and insert images and files, such as a PDF file. When inserting images or PDF files, however, they must either already exist on the platform or you will need to upload them. What you cannot do is copy/paste images or files into this editor.
Editing from the Item Details Page
On the Overview tab of every instance is a link to View Details. This link opens the Item Details page. In the Details section there is a link - 'Edit'. This will open the same editor as the Instance Description editor and has the same limitations. The same content will display in both locations.
Editing the Display Article
The Display Article is a special article created on an instance when the instance type has a display script on it. See Creating CMS Articles Automatically
To open the article, browse to the instance in Model Explorer and use the 'instancename' Overview link on the Overview tab to open the page. Use the gear at the top right to open the editor.
There are a lot of tools for editing Display Script Articles that do not operate well for editing Descriptions on instances;
- There are tabs for directly editing the html Code on the page, as well as a Preview button.
- There are dropdowns for editing headings (H1, H2, et. al.) as well as some styling options.
- Articles can be paginated, which automatically creates an Article Index - a Table of Contents.
- Tabbed containers can be created
- Sliders can be inserted
- Columns can be created
- Images can be inserted, including image galleries
- Media can be inserted

*only users in the Engineering or Configuration user groups can use the front-end editor. This is configurable: see your platform integrator for more information.
