Before installing any connector it is recommended that you read the Connectors Overview page. All connectors follow common instructions for installation. The following information is specific to this connector.
On the Overview page, there is a specific section on Process Historians.
The Wonderware\Aveva Historian will only run on a Windows platform.
Internet Access
The gateway and connector can be installed either locally - on the machine where the historian resides - or remotely - on a differently machine on the network.
If the choice is to install on the historian machine directly (‘local’ installation), the machine must have Internet access that is described here. If installed on a remote machine (not on the historian), that machine must also have Internet access as previously described.
Network Access
When installing on a remote machine, (not on the ‘local’ machine) the gateway machine needs to be able to make a Microsoft SQL Server connection, typically Microsoft SQL client to Microsoft SQL Server. This usually runs over TCP over port 1433. The protocol used will be Microsoft SQL Server client-server transport, previously known as tabular data stream.
Microsoft SQL Server supports 2 modes of security. The first mode is SQL Server security. In this mode you can define your users and their password in the SQL Server. The second mode uses integrated security which typically means Active Directory is the identity provider for the connections that happens between them. By default with integrated security is this turned on.
Configuration Utility
At the end of the gateway installation process, you will run a configuration utility that comes with our connectors (configuration.exe). It prompts you for the name of the machine where the historian resides. If you are installing locally – on the machine where the historian resides - you can enter localhost or enter a dot(‘.’). If you are installing remotely you must enter the TCP name of the historian machine or its IP address.
Next you are asked if you want the connector to run as a network service or use specific user credentials?
If you type in user credentials at that point in time it will connect. If you enter user credentials that are domain name\ my username it will connect with those credentials - not the credentials with which you're logged into the system.
If the machine you are connecting to is using integrated security it will use the credentials that the service has been told to run with.
With any Windows Server you can tell the service what credentials am I going to run with.
Mapping Tags
To receive time series data from a new connector, its tags must be properly linked to attributes in ThinkIQ system. Learn how to Map Tags to Data Sources.
