Glossary

A data type consisting of a set of named values represented as a set of key-value pairs in the database. For example, to represent the days of the work week the key would be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. By default, the value would be stored as 0,1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively.

When types of enumerations are created in ThinkIQ, the key is the descriptive word, name, or phrase, in the list, and the value is what is returned from the data source, usually a sensor.

When an instance of an enumeration is created, the name, or description, of the items cannot be changed, but the expected values can be changed to match what the data source will provide.

For example, an enumeration type such as Running State may have three states, or enumerations: Running, Stopped, In Maintenance.  The default value for this list might be 0, 1, 2. When the enumeration is wired to a tag, however, the PLC may return 1,2,3. In this event, the values of the instance would be edited to reflect this.
